Zach Hollander - The Pearl Recording Studio
Opening the summer of 2011, The Pearl Recording Studio is a retro style recording studio in the heart of the Minneapolis’ North East “Art District.” The Pearl offers both analog and digital recording services to bands, singers, ensembles, and commercial work. The Pearl’s mission is to provide a great service with an old-school analog feel at an affordable price. The Pearl has worked with bands of every level and type of project from simple hobbyist to creating full-length albums for touring national acts. Zachary “Zach” Hollander, owner and head audio engineer, grew up in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Zach fell in love with music at a young age, his mother was an aspiring singer, so music was always playing around Zach’s household while growing up. Guitar becoming his key instrument at the age of 12 and writing his first song at age 13, Zach knew the music industry was where he was meant to be. Later going to school at Full Sail University, in Orlando, Florida, Zach majored in Audio Engineering. Once he graduated in 2006, Zach came to Minnesota to work at Pachyderm Recording Studios in Cannon Falls as an intern, eventually leading to getting hired on as a full-time staff engineer. Once Zach had run his course at Pachyderm, him and his brother, Noah, had decided to start their own business and to open their own analog recording studio. Since then, Zach has worked with artists such as The Plott Hounds, Davina and The Vagabonds, Gaelynn Lee, The Honey Dogs, Chris Koza, The Fedearles, The Little Fevers and Jeremy Messersmith.
I’m not going to write this in the 3rd person pretending that someone else wrote it about me because we all know that’s not what’s happening here. I’ve lived in Minneapolis my whole life but travel a lot for music stuff… written songs on 3 platinum records and 2 Grammy winning albums, working with some pretty freaky people… Jonny Lang, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Etta James, Paul Westerberg, The Replacements, The Warren Brothers, Joe Cocker, John Mayall, 3 Dog Night, Lynyrd Skynyrd, etc. Some of my all time heroes have sung my songs, like Lucinda Williams and Bruce Springsteen, it gets weirder every year! Signed my first publishing deal with Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller back in the ‘90’s, spent that decade just writing songs; expanded into engineering, producing and mixing in the 2000’s. Besides producing a ton of midwest things like Communist Daughter and The Replacements, I do a lot of music for film/tv, including The Sopranos,ESPN, Shameless and Ray Donovan. I’ve toured on guitar with Paul Westerberg, Freedy Johnston and Gary Louris (Jayhawks), a couple of years back I toured Australia playing with cast members of “Sons Of Anarchy”. Over the years I’ve hung out a good bit in LA and Nashville writing songs with Liz Rose, Dan Wilson, Kostas, Richie Sambora, Mark Hudson, Daniel Powter, Sharon Vaughn, etc… When I started producing it didn’t leave as much time for writing but lately I missed it so I’ve been doing more co-writing and I just signed a new publishing deal with Whitney Daane’s new company Daangerous/Kobalt Music. Starting to get some songs cut in Nashville, which is cool…..Sometimes I think writing is my favorite part but then when I’m writing sometimes I miss the knobs in the studio so…. I’ve been playing with my band “The Okemah Prophets” on and off for a few years, we have a bunch of records out there that you can see if you hit the “Okemah Prophets” button on the front page of this site. The new album is called “Every Part Of The Buffalo” which is a very old school Minneapolis garage rock 3 piece thing, if you like the Replacements, Cheap Trick and stuff like that. I have my own full-on studio (The Kill Room) with drum room and all but since I am part time at the Institute of Production and Recording I can use their huge studio (Mastermix) any time, so I often track basics there and finish things at my place. As you can tell from the multi-tentacled nature of my work, I get into stuff because the SONGS are interesting, not just the STYLE. I love bubbly pop music but I also love indie rock, blues, folk, jazz, r&b, country whatever. If the songs are good I’m in. After working on all the weird things I’ve done with all those weird people I’m up for anything!!
Owen & Davide - F5 SoundHouse
Though the tornado that hit Minneapolis in 2011 wasn't an F5, it still seemed an appropriate "working title" for the recording studio in Minneapolis we were about to build. Much of this facility was constructed by our own hands, and with the help of so many experts in the field and friends who just wanted to be part of the process, we now have one of the most comfortable, vibe-filled songwriting and production studios in the Midwest. Since we officially opened in early 2012, we've been teaming with artists around the country and the world to help them realize their respective visions for their art. Our music partners are in Italy, Switzerland, France, England and Japan, as well as Los Angeles, Nashville, New York, Chicago, Austin, Madison, Sioux Falls, and of course, here at home in Minneapolis and the greater Twin Cities area. Our focus has always been on serving the artist and serving the song, and the best way we can do that is to incorporate a system of professional mentorship in every project we take on. The mission of our dedicated team of artists, producers, and music industry veterans is to educate and mentor our clients while providing top-notch music production and songwriting services at the most competitive rates in Minneapolis.
