Shane Martin Uses His Music to Help Family

By Andrew Ellis, Editor-in-Chief

For years Shane Martin has been engaging fans with his captivating catalogue and engaging live shows for years, but he recently found a way to use his music to help a family member in need.

In early June his uncle Wayne Kolles was diagnosed with not one but two types of cancer: Stage 3 Multiple Myeloma and a Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor (GIST). With a current treatment plan consisting of chemotherapy infusions and many oral chemo drugs that fight cancer.

Martin came up with an idea. He could have fans bid on a chance to perform a song of their choice with the backing of the Shane Martin Band. With that, “Help Wayne Kick Cancer to the Curb” was born.

“It’s a gratifying feeling to be able to use the God given gift of music and help someone else in need,” he says. “Especially a close family member.”

The winner will get a choice between three upcoming band dates: November 11th or January 6th at The Lookout Bar and Grill in Maple Grove, or November 22nd at The Friendly Buffalo in Bug Lake.

The Wayne Kolles Benefit will take place at noon on Sunday, October 22nd at the St. Albert Parish Center in Albertville, Minnesota. Admission is free but donations will be greatly appreciated. The event includes dinner, a silent and live auction, activities for the kids, and it all ends with a full performance by the Shane Martin Band. And that’s one more example of the great power of music.

“For me music is good for the soul and I believe it’s a universal remedy as it brings people together for good times and in times of support,” he says.
